Josie Sawyer, Lucy Daniels Center’s Executive and Clinical Director, joined the organization in 2015 as a clinician with the Farley-Manning Family Guidance Service (FGS). Ms. Sawyer became Lucy Daniels Center’s second Executive & Clinical Director in 2019, continuing the organization’s legacy of therapeutic education with on-site wrap-around clinical services that are grounded in psychoanalytic clinical approaches.
A graduate of Furman University, Ms. Sawyer is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has her Masters in Social Work from UNC-Chapel Hill. In addition to her years of service as a mental health clinician at Lucy Daniels Center, Ms. Sawyer dedicated her efforts to serving impoverished and marginalized children and families by providing in-home mental health services to families in need. Ms. Sawyer holds a certification in parent-child interaction therapy (a two-year post-grad rostering program), and her areas of special interest and expertise are childhood trauma and PTSD/anxiety disorders; childhood feeding issues; attachment difficulties; and adoption. More recently, she has furthered her psychoanalytic training as a matriculated student with the Psychoanalytic Center of the Carolinas. Ms. Sawyer also received an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from Duke University in 2019.
