Child Enrichment Program

           Now Enrolling!

The Lucy Daniels Center Child Enrichment Program (CEP) in Cary, NC provides part-day programs for the general population of children, ages three and four. Nationally accredited by the NAEYC (National Association for Education of Young Children) and licensed as a five-star program by the state of North Carolina, the CEP approach is uncompromising in its commitment to provide an environment, relationships, and curriculum that optimally build competencies preparing children for success in academics and relationships.

The following beliefs and commitments form the foundation of our Child Enrichment Program:

  • We help children feel that their school environment is emotionally safe, supportive, and nurturing.
  • We encourage children to learn within the framework of their interests. Accomplishing this requires that teachers have substantial time outside of class time to develop curriculum and materials that support the interests of the class and individual children.
  • We support parents to become a part of their child's school experience, feel at home with teachers and their child's classroom, and obtain the information necessary to achieve these goals.
  • We believe that teachers must learn about each child's unique capacities and emotional life to best help each child grow and learn to their fullest capacity. Understanding each child at a nuanced level requires teacher's dedication and a close collaboration between teachers and parents. Each week our CEP teachers spend a minimum of two hours in discussion, classes, and workshops led by our child development experts.
  • We choose teachers who are highly trained professionals. Our teachers have earned a Bachelors or Masters level degree, although we make occasional exceptions for exceptionally talented and experienced teachers.

Some Details:

  • Our classrooms are taught by teams of two teachers and provide exceptionally low teacher/child ratios.
  • Parents can consult with the many early childhood experts at the Lucy Daniels Center with their questions and concerns, no matter how small. When there is a reason, parents can obtain parent counseling, or mental health evaluation and treatment for their child from our valued on-site community resource counseling, the Family Guidance Service.
  • Our preschool is a national and local model program demonstrating the highest standard in early childhood education. We have trained scores of student and practicing teachers in our classrooms.
  • Our orientation and techniques have been disseminated in statewide and national conferences, professional publications, and materials. Several colleges across North Carolina now use our materials to instruct the next generation of teachers in best practices with young children.

Testimonial from CEP parent:

"This will be our family's third year in the Lucy Daniels Center Child Enrichment Program preschool, and we've been thrilled. It's an NAEYC accredited, 5-star licensed, nationally awarded program. You may have heard of the Center in Carolina Parent or noticed them being quoted in national parenting magazines. This year they'll be offering classes for 3-4 year olds developing within the typical range or who have mild delays that would allow them to participate in an inclusive classroom setting. They also offer an Early Intervention Program for kids needing support in social/ emotional areas.

As a parent, I was struck by several things that make this preschool program different from others. First, it's an 11-month, half-day preschool. For us, this has provided a consistency that made going back to school after break easier. It's a secular program with a good mix of students from a variety of backgrounds. They also have smaller than required classes. The most important thing for us was the phase-in program, which allows you to slowly transition your child in at the beginning of the year by staying increasingly shorter periods until the child is comfortable staying on their own. For kids like mine who are incredibly attached and have a difficult time with separation, this is a wonderful thing in making them feel safe and secure. They also don't require that a child be potty-trained by a certain deadline, but work with parents on the child's schedule. They've been great in helping our child deal with the changes that come with a new sibling. You can tell they really care about the kids. They call to let you know that the child is missed when they are out sick, and even offered to let my child talk to his friends on speaker phone when he'd been out a week sick. I can't say enough great things about the Lucy Daniels Center, and I strongly encourage those of you looking for a preschool to consider them."
